Halloween is a long-held tradition, enjoyed by adults and children alike. It’s not all trick-or-treating and pumpkin carving though – here in Angus there are some fantastic events taking place for you to enjoy. We’ve pulled together some of them here to help you plan your celebrations.

The Big Halloween Treasure Hunt and Pumpkin Pick
Brechin Castle Centre
Saturday 30 September to Sunday 29 October
Visit Brechin Castle Centre to follow the fiendish trail, make your way through the giant spiders web tunnel, creep past the monsters, brave the haunted graveyard and ghost town, and cast a spell at the witches’ workshop to find the five slithery snakes hidden there. Afterwards, head to the Pumpkin Patch and pick your own to take home.

The Potion-Maker’s Quest
Arbroath Abbey
Saturday 7 to Sunday 29 October
Do you know your mugwort from your mallow, and teasel from thyme? Join Historic Environment Scotland at Arbroath Abbey for this Family Halloween trail, hunt for the potion ingredients and collect your reward!

Pick your own Pumpkin at Pathhead
Pathhead Farm, Kirriemuir
Friday 13 to Sunday 29 October
Enjoy lots of scary family fun, pumpkin-themed food (as well as the usual café menu), tractor rides, wheelbarrow fun, straw bale climbing, pumpkin competitions and much more. Come along and enjoy a fun family day out!

Ghosts of Glamis

Thursday 26 to Tuesday 31 October
Get ready for jumps, scares and a lot of fun with Ghosts of Glamis at Glamis Castle. Brave visitors will be taken on a spooky tour where they will hear stories of the ghosts said to haunt the castle’s many majestic rooms. After the ghost tour, visitors will go outside to explore a light trail that will take them into the vast and very dark gardens and grounds surrounding the castle.

Little Scare-lings

Friday 27 to Sunday 29 October
Children aged 3 to 10 are invited to come along and enjoy pumpkin-themed activities and games, and sink their fangs into some terrifying treats, before choosing their own pumpkin from the miniature pumpkin patch to take home and carve.

Dreams or Screams Festival of Fear

Saturday 28 October
Get your scariest outfit on and join the Festival of Fear for a frightfully good time. Be amazed with spooky magic and horror illusions, be in awe of fire jugglers, brave the horror trail featuring chilling scenes, get comfy around the fire and listen to some spine-tingling tales, enter the inflatable house of horrors and much more!

Embrace the eerie vibes and dress up in your most creative and terrifying costumes ready for a spooktacular night of Halloween fun. Featuring the electrifying sounds of the band Pepperpot, dance the night away to their hauntingly good tunes.

House of Dun Halloween Trail

Saturday 28 & Sunday 29 October
Visit House of Dun this Halloween and take part in their Halloween Trail. Collect the trail sheet and answer the questions as you walk round the woodland before returning to the courtyard to claim your prize.

Mortuary Chapel Lantern Parade
Mortuary Chapel, Arbroath
Sunday 29 October
To mark the clocks going back by one hour in our year of Light & Time, join this willow Lantern Parade to the Mortuary Chapel in Arbroath’s Western Cemetery. Workshops will take place in the lead up to make lanterns and create this handmade luminous parade of light, and enter at night into the Chapel.

Creep – Halloween Maze

Are you brave enough to enter the Halloween Maze? You will enter and negotiate your way around the thick hedge maze whilst avoiding flesh eating creeps (look out for some twisted characters inside), as well as some surprise characters.

Haunted House of Dun
House of Dun, Montrose
Monday 30 & Tuesday 31 October
Come and visit House of Dun, meet the spooky guides and hear the Haunted tales of the Erskine Estate. Tours last approximately 1 hour. Refreshments are available to purchase in the café after.
