Fresh, seasonal, local produce is everywhere in Angus – at our regular farmers’ markets in Forfar, Montrose, Arbroath and Brechin, in our extensive selection of restaurants and cafes, and in our delicatessens, grocers, butchers, fishmongers and farm shops.
From local lamb, beef and pork to freshly-caught seafood, juicy soft fruit and world renowned asparagus, even vodka, gin and whisky made from the crops in our fields… It’s little wonder this area has gained a reputation for providing the very best of Scottish produce.

Located on the east coast of Scotland, Angus is famed for its fish and seafood. The Arbroath Smokie is world renowned – haddock smoked over barrels in the traditional way, and is widely available from the many fishmongers in the town.
Angus is famed for its Aberdeen Angus beef, but our local butchers serve up a whole range of meat reared in the area including lamb, pork, game and even goat. You can also sample award winning pies, sausage rolls and haggis.
Angus has some of the richest agricultural land in Scotland which makes our crops and livestock world-class. In many places you can now buy goods directly from the farm, guaranteeing freshness and cutting down on food miles.
There has been an artisan drinks revolution in Scotland in recent years and Angus is no exception with an excellent range of craft beers and spirits. Locally made fruit juices and small-batch roasted coffee is available too. We even grow our own tea!
Bakery / Confectionery
If you have a sweet tooth, there is plenty of choice from local chocolatiers, bakers and sweet makers. Savoury palates are catered for too, with homemade pies, and the famous Forfar bridie – a meat filled pasty which is native to the area.
With the abundance of soft fruit in Angus, it’s no wonder that we have some of the best jam-makers in the business based here, with products being available all over the world. They make excellent marmalades and chutneys too!

What better way of reaching your 5 a day than eating some locally-grown fruit and vegetables? From raspberries and strawberries, to asparagus and potatoes there is a huge choice here in Angus.
We have some fantastic specialist shops here in Angus where you can find a wide range of local products. They are available online too, and some of our larger brands can be found in supermarkets across the country.
