Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre

1. Explore the ruins of Arbroath Abbey where the Declaration of Arbroath was signed in 1320. 2020 marks the 700th anniversary of this important day in history, and visitors can enjoy a six month festival of celebrations from April onwards.

2. Visit Montrose Air Station Heritage Centre, site of the first operational military air station in the UK, where you can see their collection of memorabilia and aircraft.

3. Sample a delicious Arbroath Smokie, a delicious local delicacy of haddock smoked over hardwood using a process unique to this region.

4. Visit the birthplace of Sir JM Barrie, famous author of Peter Pan.

5. Take a selfie with the statue of rock legend Bon Scott, lead singer of AC/DC.

6. Visit The Bothy Experience and sample some of their award winning Gin Bothy gin.

7. Pick up some outstanding local produce at the monthly Forfar, Montrose and Arbroath Farmers’ Markets.

8. Visit Glamis Castle, legendary setting of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and childhood home of the Queen Mother.

9. Play over 30 courses within Carnoustie Country, including Montrose 1562, the 5th oldest golf course in the world.

10. Test your nerve and walk across the Shakin’ Brig’ in Edzell.

16. Gifted to the town by Sir JM Barrie, Camera Obscura on Kirriemuir Hill is one of only three in Scotland.

17. Discover three country parks, bursting with things to see and do – Forfar Loch, Monikie and Crombie.

18. Be entertained with a packed programme of events at the Webster Memorial Theatre.

19. Experience life as a farmer and get hands on with the animals on a farm tour.

20. See some amazing wildlife at Montrose Basin Wildlife Centre, home to thousands of birds and mammals.
