School’s out for summer here in Angus!

To help you keep the little ones entertained throughout the holidays, we’ve pulled together some fun activities and days out to help you plan your summer – take a look and see what’s on in Angus.

Family-Friendly Events

Why not head along to one of the family-friendly fun events taking place in Angus this summer?

Roll up, roll up! The Big Kid Circus is coming to Arbroath’s Inchcape Park from Tuesday 2 to Sunday 7 July. Get your tickets and head along to see a diverse ensemble of performers hailing from every corner of the globe.

Head to the first Brechin Bike & Trike Fest on Saturday 6 July to see an incredible display of bikes and trikes, and enjoy live music and family-friendly fun.

From Wednesday 10 to Sunday 14 July, meet characters from history at the House of Dun, with a small-scale historical camp in the grounds representing Redcoats & Jacobites. Hear stories of both sides of the cause, see the clothing, equipment, weapons & everyday items that they used at home or in battle.

The Kirriemuir Show on Saturday 13 July is a great day for all the family with lots of fun activities and things to see.

See an amazing array of vintage and classic vehicles at the Scottish Transport Extravaganza on Saturday 13 & Sunday 14 July, and enjoy main ring entertainment.

Enjoy a fun-filled Open Day at Pathhead Farm and Equestrian Centre on Saturday 3 August. There will be pony rides, tractor and trailer rides, face painting, a BBQ and the chance to have a go at pony club! Come along and see all the great things on offer.

And don’t miss the Summer Family Fun Day at Glamis Castle on Saturday 11 August, where you’ll find a huge variety of activities and workshops to enjoy, as well as market stalls to browse.

ANGUSalive Holiday Activities

ANGUSalive Holiday Activity Programme

You don’t need to visit the beach for a flip-flop summer, there’s holiday activities on your doorstep in Angus for a tip-top time!

ANGUSalive have a fantastic programme of activities taking place throughout Angus from 1 July to 9 August, with something for everyone to enjoy. Free and partially funded places are available for disability and inclusion activities and swim sessions.

Take a look at the activities on offer, including watersport taster sessions at Monikie Country Park, Street Dance Camp at Montrose Sports Centre, Time Treks at ANGUSalive museums in Arbroath, Forfar and Montrose, Climbing Courses, Reading Challenges, Art Clubs and so much more!

Murton Farm and Nature Reserve

Murton Farm, Tearoom & Nature Reserve

Murton Farm, Tearoom & Nature Reserve, located just outside of Forfar, have lots of fantastic events taking place throughout the summer.

Enjoy family time in the outdoors on the Visitor Farm, meet the friendly animals, explore the stunning nature reserve, listen to storytelling in the tipi, discover hidden treasures on an exciting treasure hunt, learn bushcraft skills, get creative with crafts, and much more!

Day Out with Thomas at Caledonian Railway

Enjoy a Day Out with Thomas on selected dates in July and August at Caledonian Railway in Brechin! Little ones will love meeting Thomas the Tank Engine and the Fat Controller. There will also be an array of rides and attractions to enjoy, from fairground rides and bouncy castles to face painting and story telling from Rusty and Dusty.

You can also hop on board one of their regular Diesel Saturday or Steam Sunday trains and enjoy a leisurely ride from Brechin to Bridge of Dun.

Whitehills Primary Ice Cream Trail

Ice Cream Trail

Follow the easy, moderate and hard walking trails, designed by pupils of Whitehills Nursery and Primary School in Forfar, to find all 16 decorated ice cream cones located in and around Forfar.

This is a great opportunity to explore Forfar this summer, boosting our health and wellbeing by enjoying outdoor time with family and friends while learning something new about the town. Each cone will have a QR code that you can scan. This will take you to information about the location of the cone or an activity to follow.

Throughout July and August, you will have the chance to enter a competition to win an “Adopt an Animal” at Murton Nature Reserve which includes an annual pass.
