Whether you’re a local or just visiting, there’s a huge variety of events that promise spine-tingling fun. Here’s your guide to some of the best Halloween happenings in Angus this year!

Frightful Farm Fest
Newton Farm, Forfar
Thursday 3 to Thursday 31 October
Experience a Halloween twist on the traditional farm tour with the Freaky Farm Tour, featuring spooky facts and folklore about the farm and its many animals. The tours are suitable for any age and are available daily from 6 to 31 October. And for adults only (age 13+), don’t miss the Haunted Harvest Terror Tour, filled with suspense, scares and screams. These tours are available Thursday to Saturday from 3 to 19 October, and daily from 24 to 31 October.

The Big Halloween Treasure Hunt & Pumpkin Pick
Brechin Castle Centre
Saturday 5 to Sunday 27 October
Make your way through the fiendish trail, brave the haunted graveyard & vampire’s lair, play trick or treat with the woodland mice and explore the ghoulish gallery to search for the 5 purple pumpkins hidden there. Then head to the Pumpkin Patch where you can become Mr Scarecrow and select your very own pumpkin to take home. Available daily from 5 to 27 October.

Murton Halloween Trail
Murton Nature Reserve, Forfar
Saturday 12 to Thursday 31 October
Pick up your spooky instructions and head off around the nature reserve for a not so frightful Halloween trail. You will have to find items, work out a code and if you make it back, there may just be a little treat for you. This is a self led walk around the nature reserve for you to enjoy at your own leisure, available from 12 to 31 October.

Potion Maker’s Trail
Arbroath Abbey
Saturday 12 October to Sunday 3 November
Can you free our ancient places from a magic spell? Find the plants scattered around the sites to assemble the clues, then chant a rhyme to lift the curse. Available from 12 October to 3 November, included in admission to the abbey.

Hallowe'en Pumpkin

Get into the Halloween spirit by carving out a spook-taculary creative pumpkin. These 45 minute workshops, at 11am and 1pm on 19 October, allow children to pick their own pumpkin from the autumnal display before enjoying a pumpkin carving class with the team.

Ghosts of Glamis

Little Scare-lings

Your little scare-lings will sink their fangs into some terrifyingly tasty treats from the Children’s Halloween Afternoon Tea, followed by a spooky gourd decorating activity and fun games with the Dobbies’ ‘monster’ – all while you sit back with a cuppa and a treat to watch them have fun. Fancy dress very much encouraged! Available at 3pm on 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27 October.

Ghosts of Glamis

Friday 25 to Thursday 31 October
Embark on a spooky indoor tour where you’ll hear eerie tales of the spirits that are said to haunt the castle’s majestic rooms. This year’s tour will take visitors up the castle’s spiral staircase and offer glimpses of areas and stories that have never featured in ghost tours before. Adult only tours will take place on 25, 26, 27, 29, 30 and 31 October between 6.30pm and 9pm each evening. Family friendly storytelling sessions designed especially for those under 14 will take place every 15 minutes between 4pm and 5pm on 26 and 27 October.

Murton Halloween Workshop
Murton Farm, Forfar
Saturday 26 October
Join Murton for some spooktacular crafting just in time for Halloween! This workshop, designed for those aged 5 and over, will have the kids working with leather, wood, tools, while adding a little bit of their own creative flair. Adults are encouraged to spend some quality time with their children working together. Children will be able to take home one of each of the crafts available. Workshops are available at 10am and 11.30am on 26 October.

Experience the ultimate haunted house filled with terrifying surprises and spine-chilling thrills. Are you brave enough to face the horrors that await inside? Prepare to be scared as you navigate through haunted rooms and encounter terrifying creatures and creeps. Available on 26 October for one night only.

Visit House of Dun this Halloween and take part in their Spooky Woods Family Halloween Trail. Collect the trail sheet and answer the questions as you take a autumn stroll through the woodland before returning to the courtyard to claim your prize. Available on 26 and 27 October.

Mystical Wand Workshops

Discover the mystical powers that different kinds of wood hold as you join ANGUSalive Rangers to create your own unique wand. Give your wand its own sparkle, along with other Halloween themed crafts. Available at Forfar Loch on 30 October and Monikie Country Park on 31 October.

Handling Halloween History

Part of the 2024 Scottish International Storytelling Festival, this event is your chance to explore the folklore and history of Halloween in Angus through a special combination of object handling and live storytelling. With local storyteller Eileen Budd, in partnership with Meffan Museum and Murton Trust.

Halloween Fun at Murton

Friday 1 November
Fun for all the family, this night is suitable for tots through to around primary 5. Be brave and join the spooky walk, catch a donut in the cabin, create something wicked in the potion kitchen, and help scoop the brains back inside the pumpkins. There will also be a small treat for being such excellent guisers and maybe a prize or two.
