Solidarity Herbal Medicine Making – Forage and Gather

3 December 2021, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Solidarity Herbal Medicine Making

As a traditional practice of healthcare, herbalism should be something that we all have access to but due to the extremely profitable, and therefore dominant, nature of the pharmaceutical medicine model herbalism has become a private medicine. This means that it is only available to those with the money to pay for it and or the time and knowledge to prepare it.

In three workshop sessions over winter, we join artist and trainee herbalist Ju Scott to learn how to make several herbal preparations in solidarity with Angus Carers Network. Learn how to forage and make healing salves, cook seasonal culinary recipes, prepare relaxing foot bath salts and salves for cuts and scrapes and for burns. As we talk through the ingredients and make herbal remedies, each of you will take what you have made home (one for yourself and another for anyone you care for) and any additional herbal remedies that are prepared will be distributed by Herbal Unity and Angus Carers throughout their community. You will also receive print outs of the recipes and methods to take home.

Workshops take place at Hospitalfield House and Gardens. Please sign up for all three sessions if you can.

To Book
These workshops are designed for adult carers or young carers in Angus. You may be a parent, a son or daughter, a sister or brother or friend to someone who needs your support as a result of their illness, condition or disability. There is no age limit. Please contact kirsten@hospitalfield.org.uk to book a place or call 01241 656 124 if you have any questions.

Forage & Gather, 2.00pm – 3.00pm, Friday 3 December 2021
In this session we forage and gather herbal ingredients local to Hospitalfield’s Garden that will be dried and then used in oils and then into salves in future workshops. Learn about kitchen medicine and how to make Fire Cider, something to help the immune system through the winter, and Hawthorn Ketchup, delicious and good for the heart.
