Love in the Round: Poetry in the Memorial Chapel

14 February 2024, 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Mortuary Chapel

An idea inspired by our community friends of the Memorial Chapel, you are invited to come and celebrate Valentine’s Day by listening to and reading a favourite poem at the Memorial Chapel in the Western Cemetery.

Led by poet Knotbrook Taylor, choose a poem to share or read aloud that celebrates love in the round, not just the traditional romantic love and coupledom. You can share an example of writing that demonstrates love to family, pets, the natural world around us, a friend who is close, a person or people who are far away, or for yourself.

If you still have a wish to find true love you are invited to take part in the old Derbyshire tradition of running around the chapel twelve times without stopping to conjure the apparition of your true love.

The Memorial Chapel was designed by Patrick Allan-Fraser as a memorial to his late wife Elizabeth and her deceased parents John Fraser and Elizabeth Parrot Fraser.

This event is free, but we welcome donations to the future renovation of the memorial chapel.  Let us know you plan to attend here: Love in the Round: Poetry in the Memorial Chapel – Buy tickets (citizenticket.com)

Everyone welcome.

You can learn more about the Memorial Chapel here: https://hospitalfield.org.uk/heritage/mortuary-chapel/

Access: The chapel is located inside Arbroath’s Western Cemetery off Gallowden Road. It is possible to reach the chapel on foot or by car. There is mostly level access however there are two steps into the chapel itself.

Please wrap up warm as the chapel is not heated.
