House of Dun: A Specialised Tour Through the Creation of Atmosphere

£8 – £18This specialised guided event is based on the standardised tour of Dun. As Bianca and one of House of Dun’s costumed interpreters take you through the house you will learn about the house’s history and the Erskine family. Woven into this discussion is an exploration of each room’s unique atmosphere and the design decisions behind them. Special attention will be on curation, light design, and sound.
Following the tour there will be refreshments and an opportunity to ask questions and talk with Bianca and the House of Dun team. The tour and following refreshments will be take one hour.
Bianca Bellafiore is a PhD student in Museum Studies at the University of Aberdeen. Her professional background is primarily in collections management and museum interpretation. Coupled with her love of historic houses, Bianca’s academic interests gravitated towards studying a variety of visitor experiences such as authenticity and atmosphere.
Set at House of Dun, her current research explores the ways in which museums and heritage sites consider atmosphere throughout design and interpretation and how visitors respond to strategies such as light and sound design, costumed interpretation and performance intended to produce a range of atmospheres.
