Angus Maritime Heritage

The Angus coastline is about 35 miles long, from north of Montrose to the outskirts of Dundee.  When roads were poor, goods and people were carried along the coast by ship, and over a dozen distinct communities in Angus made their living from the vibrant and bustling coast. But the sea could be dangerous and unpredictable and many lives were lost through shipwrecks and storms.

Learn more about the seaside towns and villages in Angus, including Auchmithie, the home of the Arbroath Smokie.
