The Black Feathers at Montrose Folk Club
24 January 2024, 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
£12.50As has become a Montrose Folk Club annual tradition, we start off our 2024 programme of live Acoustic Music with a Gig from the 2024 Celtic Connections, the Festival of Roots Music, which brightens every January in Glasgow. We are delighted to welcome to Montrose Playhouse the Black Feathers on Wednesday ( not Tuesday ) 24th January 2024, the evening before they headline a Celtic Connections concert at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow.
The Black Feathers are a Roots Music Duo, based in South Wales, consisting of Irishman, Ray Hughes, a classically-trained guitarist, and the powerful vocals of Sian Chandler from Gloucestershire. Their sound has been likened to that of The Civil Wars, as well as Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings.
Americana to some, Folk to others, in the Black Feathers, the soaring, dramatic, but melodious, voice of Sian Chandler is a perfect counterpoint to the piquant vocals of Ray Hughes and his sparkling, and occasionally spicy, guitar motifs. The Black Feathers have been writing Songs since 2014, but their set also includes well chosen covers from the pen of such as Portishead and Bob Dylan and Seventies hit, “Spirit in the Sky”.
Join us in Cinema 3 for a one-off Wednesday gig for ” Celtic Connections almost by your own Fireside”.
Tickets (£12.50) are available on the door or can be reserved by emailing kenneth@fivefurlongs.plus.com
