Description:

Admire an unusual example of a dovecot of the late 1500s, used to house pigeons ā€“ an important food source, especially over winter months.

A short walk leads to the remains of an earth house, or soutterrain, of Iron Age date, a curving underground passage, now uncovered. Reused stones with Bronze Age rock carvings can be seen in its walls.

April to September:
Monday to Friday ā€“ 9.30am to 5.30pm

October to March:
Closed

Accessibility:
Access to the earth house is through land which may be used by livestock. Please wear strong footwear. Limited parking in farmyard beside dovecot.

Dog Friendly

Dogs are welcome at this outdoor location. This site is accessed through working farmland. To keep you and the livestock safe, please follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code and keep dogs on leads.
