Rum Ragged are the second outstanding band to play for us at Montrose Playhouse in 2026 as part of our tradition of ” Celtic Connections almost by Your Own Fireside.” After playing in Glasgow on the final weekend of the Celtic Connections Festival, they will take the stage at Montrose Playhouse for what is a one-off Monday evening gig for us.

Nominees for a Juno ( the Canadian equivalent of a Grammy ) and in 2025, the winners of a Canadian Folk Music Award for Ensemble of the Year, Rum Ragged take a bold contemporary approach to the Music of their home, the Eastern Canadian Island of Newfoundland. Their innovative songwriting has also brought them nominations for several East Coast Music Awards, whilst they have won eleven MusicNL Awards in their time as a band.

The Live Shows of this young band are outstanding and exciting. Their combination of striking vocal harmonies, staggering musicianship, humour and captivating storytelling is an experience, not to be forgotten. The instruments, played by the four members of the band, include bouzouki, fiddle, bodhran, banjo, guitar and button accordion.
