Dressing Glamis Exhibition
About This Event
Glamis Castle’s ‘Dressing Glamis Exhibition’ showcases original clothing and accessories dating from the early 18th century onwards. The Exhibition focuses on what the Strathmore family and their servants wore from the Tudor, Stuart, Georgian, Regency, Victorian and Edwardian eras, bringing them to life in a visually rich and engaging way.
Complementary to this, Glamis Castle contains many impressive portraits showing the development of fashion from the 16th century onwards, as well as family photographs from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Displays of original clothing will include the colourful waistcoats of the 4th and 5th Earls, the Countess of Strathmore’s Golden Wedding Dress of 1903, and a stunning 1930s style long claret velvet dress coat with floral embroidered cuffs and edging, made by the Court dresser, Madame Handley-Seymour. There will also be some accessories and related archive documents to provide visitors with a colourful visual display in its historical context.
The Exhibition will take place in the Coach House and access is included within admission ticket prices.
