CLAY 2026
About This Event
In the run up to Christmas, CLAY is all about bringing people together, whilst at the same time appreciating, enjoying and of course buying the work of some of the most brilliant and skilled ceramicists, potters and artists.
The programme for CLAY is designed around the market where visitors can see the astonishing skills and knowledge that the ceramics community can offer and buy work directly from the makers. Over the weekend there will be talks, workshops and a special display of Dog sculptures made with local dog walkers.
Saturday 5 December, 6pm – 8pm – CLAY Opening Event:
Join us for an evening of talks, special market preview, and the opening of our Dog Show!
The evening will include two talks on collaboration and collective working within the field of ceramics from artists Zoe Williams and Fran Marquis. Zoe will talk about her continuing collaboration with workshops in Italy and Fran will talk about her recent experience of a six day firing using anagama kiln at a traditional ceramics workshop in Japan.
The talks will be followed by a special preview of the market and the opening of our Dog Show, judging of the ‘Best in Show’ and festive refreshments.
Sunday 6 December, 10am – 4pm – CLAY Market, workshop and tours:
Our Market Stall Holders for 2026 were chosen by an open call earlier this autumn.
The day will also feature Hand building workshops led by Keun Joung Lee, Dog Show Exhibition and Special Dog Themed tours of the house. These tours will focus on looking, seeing and counting the number of dogs that adorn Hospitalfield’s Arts & Crafts architecture and interior decorations.
In addition, CLAY Dog Workshops for local dog walkers will take place from 20 November – 5 December.
