The people the engraved slabs are dedicated to are – J M Barrie author, Bon Scott rock star, Sir Hugh Munro mountaineer, Sir Charles Lyell geologist, the Cameron family traditional Scottish Musicians, and the recipients of the Victoria Cross following World War 2.
These commemorations were all engraved by Bruce Walker, eminent local artist and stone sculptor. Bruce also sculpted the Millennium 2000 ‘Circle of Time’ water feature also to be found in Cumberland Close, just in front of his shop.
Directly across the road from the Gateway to the Glens museum is a narrow passageway called Cumberland Close. Go up here and then you will see the stones on your right inset into the pavement.
A must see for AC/DC fans, and don’t forget to visit the statue of Bon Scott a little further down the road in the corner of the car park.
