Kris Drever at The Montrose Playhouse
About This Event
Kris Drever is one of Scotland’s most acclaimed and distinctive contemporary musicians. He is rightly celebrated for his warm voice, virtuosic, expressive guitar playing, as well as his imaginative and evocative songwriting.
Raised in Hrossey in the Orkney Islands, Kris Drever has carved out a unique place at the intersection of traditional Folk and modern Acoustic music. As well as creating award-winning original songs and instrumental pieces with the trio, Lau (also featuring the outstanding Aidan O’Rourke and Martin Green), Kris has enjoyed a fruitful solo career.
The Kris Drever sound is rooted in the earthy and hypnotic rhythms of much older music, but there is a sophistication to both the lyricism and the instrumentation, which places him skillfully in the present. Kris has worked with many stellar musicians, including Jack Bruce, Mark Knopfler and Jerry Douglas; he is also a member of the beautiful multi-media project, Spell Songs: The Lost Words.
The concert at Montrose Playhouse is part of a tour to promote the new Kris Drever solo album. At the gig, Kris will play songs from the new album, as well as a selection from his back catalogue of originals and interpretations of traditional material.
Tickets are £17.50 and can be purchased beforehand by emailing brucekenneth130@gmail.com.
