‘Labours of Love’ by Meg & Lawrie Harris
About This Event
‘Labours of Love’, an exhibition by Meg & Lawrie Harris.
Both artists are graduates of Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen. Meg in Drawing and Painting, Lawrie in Graphic Design and Printmaking. These four years laid the foundation for a lifetime’s involvement and love of art as both teachers and exhibiting artists.
Meg, “I always paint on the spot – attacking the canvas in a flurry of activity using acrylic paints which are quick-drying. Early mornings are my preference when the light brings out intensity of colour! I love the idea of pinning a moment, capturing the light and shadow on the hill, reflections in a canal or harbour, boats with their challenging, beautiful anatomies. There must be an energy employed in looking, feeling; an immediacy in interacting with the elements to give mood and movement to the work!”
Lawrie, “Dan Dare, Pilot of the Future, sent me to Art School or rather the marvellous inspiring drawings of his creator in the exciting new Eagle comic. GSA then opened up the thrilling world of creativity where we were taught to DRAW! Entering the Design Department in 3rd year we learned the importance of a sketch book to record several drawings – often very detailed ones – which were the bases of development and final completion in the studio.”
Both artists have exhibited widely including the Scottish Arts Council; Richard Demarco European Art Foundation; Royal Scottish Academy; Royal Scottish Watercolourists.
Their work is represented in various collections: HRH Prince Philip; Earl of Dalhousie; Angus Council; Grampian Hospitals Arts Trust; Inverness Council, and many private collections worldwide.
Free to visit, drop in during museum opening hours.
