Meffan Museum and Art Gallery

Description:

A diverse programme of art exhibitions, across the full year, brings the work of local, national and internationally-renowned artists to Forfar. Two galleries are devoted to the art exhibition programme.

Within the museum space, you can explore The Forfar Story, by wandering through a recreation of an old, narrow cobbled street, called The Vennel. You can peer inside several small shops, including Peter Reid’s sweet shop, a knockmaker’s workshop and a baker’s shop, with displays of bread and bridies.

You can also examine a collection of enigmatic sculptured stones, in the Pictish Stones display.

The Meffan Museum and Art Gallery collects objects, photographs and archive material relating to the history of Forfar, together with the work of past and contemporary artists, reflecting the rich art heritage of Angus.

The teams in ANGUSalive’s museums, libraries and archives have a great local knowledge and a real enthusiasm for promoting Angus. As VisitScotland Information Partners and proud Angus ambassadors, ANGUSalive advisors can help visitors to our area make the most of their time in Angus by providing information about things to see and do, including some of the hidden gems that only locals know about.
