Event Details
The site of the beautiful historic church of St Vigeans dates back to the 12th century and is still a practising place of worship. The Church sits on a smooth green mound about 40 feet high and is skirted by a curve of attractively restored traditional cottages and bridges over the Brothock which flows through the tree sheltered valley to the town of Arbroath and the sea some one-and-a-half miles away.
Various restorations over the centuries have left a building with significant historical features including spectacular stained-glass windows, several consecration crosses and monuments and tablets. There are many interesting features both within the church and around the building and well worth a visit. During the restorations of St Vigeans, Pictish sculptured stones were uncovered, many of which are on display in the adjacent St Vigeans Museum.
St Vigeans Church will be open for both adults and children with guides to help interpret the Church and its surroundings. Tea and coffee will be available in the hall.
