Flying High: Make your own Moving Bird Sculpture at Barry Mill

Connect to the wheels and cogs that make this historic water mill creak and whirr into life!

In this workshop participants will learn how to make a 3-dimensional sculpture that moves when you turn a handle, also known as an automata.

Inspired by the impressively engineered water-powered mill stones and the wildlife that lives around it at Barry Mill, you will learn some simple techniques to make your very own flying bird.

And to do just a little bit to help protect this important environment we will be using recycled and reclaimed materials, so please bring along a selection of your own from your household waste including cardboard, plastic, fabric, or anything else that will make your bird come to life.
