Cloth: A Study Day on Costume and Conservation

The first event of a year-long programme that looks at the impact of Light and Time on our world and the way that we read it.

Exploring the urgency to conserve textiles; from the hours invested in making and stitching to the very current and often changing questions of the conservation and display of items that are materially so fragile.

Inspired by the historic textiles, clothing, and costumes at Hospitalfield which are charged with the stories of this place, our speakers will bring in to focus the layers of value that lie within the centuries of history of cloth. They will use examples of collections held at the V&A as well as recently created collections such as the astonishing 20^th century design of Bernat Klein.
