Barry Links is a vast swathe of heathland and dunes that has been formed and shaped by the incessant flow of the estuary.
The links are largely occupied by a military training area and the largest rifle-range in Scotland, associated with Barry Buddon Army Camp.
At the northeastern side of the links is the Carnoustie Championship Golf Course. Much of the area is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) to protect its sand dune systems and the vegetation is of European importance, proposed as a Special Area of Conservation.
The Dundee-Aberdeen railway forms the northern boundary of the links.
